Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami Emergency response and recovery program

Learning materials for easy understanding of the Convention on the Rights of the Child have been completed! (August 3, 2012)

In April we introduced learning materials to understand about children’s rights, “Be Partners ~ Learning materials on children’s rights.” Now we want to tell you about our learning materials, “Photolanguage of the Convention on the Rights of the Child,” which will assist you in easily understanding the convention, which is indispensable to understanding children’s rights.

With “Photolanguage of the Convention on the Rights of the Child,” readers can easily learn about the convention by looking at the photos and thinking about which photo relates to which article of the convention. They will also become interested in children’s rights.

In fact, we had been preparing for the sale of these materials as a part of our projects in Japan before the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred. As we wanted to prioritize urgent activities for supporting reconstruction after the earthquake, we had thought about cancelling these sales. However, we thought it important for both children and adults to deepen their knowledge about children’s rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. This would highlight the rights of children in Tohoku and other parts of Japan. Therefore, we decided to continue with these materials although the completion date was far behind the original schedule. We hope that these materials will provide an opportunity for you to learn about children’s rights and the Convention of the Rights of the Child.

Photo F: Which article does this photo relate to? The “example procedures” are attached.

Save the Children will continue our activities in solving issues related to children, by encouraging children to express their opinions themselves and to participate in the process, and by working together with them. We will keep you informed about the children’s activities in Tohoku. Your continuous support is greatly appreciated.
