Save the Children marks the 100th anniversary of its founding.

Every child has the right to survival, protection, development and participation. We fight to make children’s rights a reality worldwide.

Save the Children’s history dates back to Europe in the 1910s, following the continent’s devastation after the First World War. At a time when many children were suffering from severe malnutrition, Eglantyne Jebb took bold action to help them, regardless of what side of the conflict they were on, establishing Save the Children in the UK in 1919.

The organization’s activities led to the drafting of the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which is regarded as the world’s first official document relating to children’s rights. The declaration’s principles subsequently formed the basis for the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and they are still observed all over the world.

Save the Children currently provides support to children in approximately 120 countries including Japan. As a pioneer of children’s rights, we have achieved breakthroughs in the way the world treats children.
